A friend of the blog points out that an earlier commit message was
lying about the cable being out all weekend. That's ... not good.

But it's also not a total collapse of my planning credibility. We've
seen me finish long pieces before. An 86K word piece is mostly just
seven 12K word pieces stapled together, with some additional
oversight. It's objectively reasonable to expect me to find some new
Ainslie–Schelling points and make November serious!

After some progress from 11–1530, I degenerated into continuing my
re-read of Second Foundation. (It'd been years!) Is today over? No—an
experiment in bribes: I told myself I could check the net on my laptop
and watch a show from 2300 to midnight if I squeeze in four (amend
that, I actually wrote "3" in my planner?)  blocks before 2300. I'm
sure it's that easy: as long as my butt is in the desk chair and I'm
engaged with the ms. in some form, then I'm moving forward, and any
form of violence, deceit, or corruption that increases chair time is
in the service of the God–Empress.

I think I was hoping to do more in the evening, but I got called away
to a Friendship Problem (even though I was re-watching Pantheon ep. 7
when I got called)? The moral is that yet again, I thought I was sane
enough to function with internet today, and yet again, I was not. The
cable comes out for at least the next two days, and likely until
evening Sunday.

On this first day of a new month, it seemed important that I get some
blog work done in the evening and not just hedonism, even though I
already did dayjob work today. I need to make progress every day this
month to see how far I can get on that memoir! (But tapping at this
should-be-quick post instead of the memoir today is fine; I want to
finish this Thursday as a prerequisite for my report on this month's
Fan Expo (because where else would I try out my new mask?), and then
the rest of the month is memoir.

Having trouble getting started? Nothing wrong with incremental
progress and tiny commits. The chain-of-thought prompting approach: if
you a large enough amount of computation turning vague notes into
less-vague bullet-outlines and less-vague bullet outlines into
paragraphs, you can eventually diffuse a completed ms. My limiting
factor is really the "large enough amount of computation", which is
rectified by keeping my butt in this chair and keeping the timer
running.

This would be very Goodhartable (and doesn't take into account that
blockquotes or pre-written content from earlier notes/drafts getting
pasted into the ms. is easier than new ms. material), but I think it
does show that I started taking things more seriously in July ("An
Egoist Faith" having been published on 24 June).

I'd have to hit 1265 each today and tomorrow in order to match
August. (Monday I have to dayjob, and Alex Mennen's lecture series is
covering spectral graph theory.) That's very ambitious, but not, I
think, out of the question—if I take myself seriously.

Something feels wrong about the thought of mirroring a 50K word post
on Less Wrong. People would have to scroll down too far to read the
comments, and I want people to read the comments? Page load time on
that bloated JavaScript site? (Shouldn't be an issue; Jessica's
dramapost is slow to load, but that's almost certainly because of the
db JOINing all those comments, not because there's too much text.) For
whatever reason, a 35K word post feels better.

My email review file isn't being that useful if I'm just going to
re-read the emails again while taking notes into the ms. I think these
bullets are detailed enough for me to make another pass turning them
into prose, and continuously filling out this § of the ms. (likely
another day when I have network clearance to review threads that I
don't have saved off into the private notes directory)?

The non-secret identity games have already worn thin, and if I'm
telling this story that already ties into a lot of real-world
drama—for example, some of the public interest in my story will come
from how it relates to Jessica's story and the public intrigue around
whether Michael is Good or Bad, which has already been the subject of
a 950+ comment trainwreck—and if I'm actively trying to deal
reputational damage to other people's realnames (viz. Yudkowsky), it's
only fair that I show my own realname while doing it, and if I'm
dropping it for these posts, it makes sense to drop it for the whole
blog ...

For now, I'm just going to supply an "Author:" heading on these
postfiles individually, while I'm still drafting; the full blog
rebrand (and changing .gitconfig) can wait until I'm ready and thought
through all the angles.

I really shouldn't waste time in the 'Eliezerfic' Discord server. I
had some notes of some more griping I wanted to do there, but it's
better if I check it in as a draft. If I end up having a few spare
cycles on a weekday to polish it into a post for this blog, I can post

anti-Semitism, discussion of sex crimes"), but it's really not what
I'm supposed to be working on right now.

(My hostile commentary on dath ilan is motivated by my resentment of

write; I had thought of slapping together this auto-auto erotica tools

now I'm feeling so disgusted and weak that I don't think I believe in
